We have 180 places available in year 7 each year. Parents are strongly advised to take advice from their child’s primary school about the process for transfer into a secondary school. Broadly speaking the process is:
- Read Southwark’s Secondary Schools booklet (for Southwark residents).
- Visit the schools you are interested in.
- Fill in the Common Application Form (available from the Southwark admissions team) and return it to Southwark Council as advised by your child’s primary school. (The deadline for this is usually the end of the first half of the Autumn Term.)
- Parents will be notified of their school allocation early in March 2011.
Please note that Walworth has no supplementary forms and co-operates with the London-wide secondary schools admission process.

Admissions criteria
Walworth Academy is a non-denominational, non-selective school for local children. If the academy is oversubscribed, priority will be given to students with statements of special educational needs, where the academy is named on the statement. The remaining places will then be offered in the following order of priority:
• children who are in public care
• children who have a sibling who already attends the school and who will continue to do so on the date of admission (for this purpose “sibling” means a whole, half or step-brother or -sister resident at the same address)
• children who live closest to the school, using a straight line distance from the main entrance of the academy to the main entrance to the child’s home.
The academy keeps a waiting list which is used to fill casual vacancies occurring if students leave during the year, or withdraw from a place that has been offered.
Appeals
Parents/carers who are not offered a place for their child are entitled to appeal to an independent committee under the provisions of the School Standards and Framework Act, 1998.
Parents/carers wishing to appeal should contact the Southwark admissions team who will be able to advise them on the process.
