Curriculum and assessment
The academy uses a combination of Cognitive Ability Tests (CATs), Key Stage 2 SATs results and reading tests to group students and plan effective delivery of the curriculum.
These help teachers to identify students requiring specialised help as well as maximising the potential of our gifted and talented pupils.
Our system of regular assessment and communication includes at least one target-setting day each year, where parents and students meet with tutors to monitor and discuss their progress. These are in addition to parents’ evenings and the annual report.
Homework policy
We expect all our students - and parents - to recognise the fundamental role of homework in a pupil’s learning.
All homework is set according to a homework timetable and, in addition, each student has a homework diary in which they should keep a record of the specific tasks they have to complete. Parents can use this diary to monitor their child’s homework, as well as a means of communicating with their tutor.
